MIA HOTEL – SHANGHAI XUJIAHUI

Located at 955 Panyu Road in Shanghai’s Xuhui District, the MIA Hotel project transforms a former precision machine tool repair factory (later a Hanting economy hotel) into a high-end boutique hotel that reflects the area’s rich history. The hotel is positioned as a mid-to-high-end boutique accommodation, distinguished from its previous life as a budget hotel by a unique character and sense of place. By exploring the history and culture of the building and its surroundings, the design creates a charming space that showcases MIA’s own personality. The hotel sits on a street where historic villas, university buildings, and modern structures coexist harmoniously, and the project positions itself to join this context as a new local landmark. It aims to be appreciated by both travelers and locals – bridging heritage and contemporary lifestyle – in line with the award’s emphasis on architectural aesthetics and cultural heritage.
