KING’S CROSS MASTERPLAN

This pioneering masterplan has set a new bar in city making. Once cut off from the city and long an undesirable address, King’s Cross has over the last decade undergone a dramatic transformation. Its masterplan set out a framework for incremental growth that is guiding the development of a distinctive range of uses from a new home for Central St Martins to new HQs for Google, Meta, DeepMind and AstraZeneca. Rather than impose a new urban order, this masterplan is shaped by found geometries, stitching part of the city back into its fabric, bringing new life to one of the UK’s most remarkable industrial heritage sites. The development balances an extensive blend of uses and across the 67 acres more than 40% is open space. King’s Cross was shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2024, the UK’s top architecture prize, and won the RIBA Stirling People’s Choice Award.
