Against the backdrop of contemporary urban regeneration in China, Shipyard Platform 1914 delves into the adaptive reuse of a large waterfront industrial heritage site along the rear channel of the Pearl River — the Guangzhou Shipyard. Centred on the core principle of “retaining the original scale”, the project undertakes holistic conservation and historical feature restoration of No.1 Shipyard Platform. Through systematic ecological restoration programmes, it coordinates the differentiated revitalisation and utilisation of No.2 and No.3 Shipyard Platforms, creating a high-quality waterfront open space with striking spatial tension. By introducing a mixed-use functional cluster, the project transforms the rigid industrial boundary into a flexible public realm. It further engages in and reshapes the public life of modern urban society in profound ways.
