SENSE VILLA, NINGBO (DEMONSTRATION AREA)

Ningbo brings together the finest of ‘mountains, sea and forests’, with its cultural heritage and ancient traditions crafting a unique impression of the Jiangnan region. Upon first encountering this site, one is struck by the layout of ‘halls to the north, water to the south’, with willows bending over the banks and the network of streets and alleys unfolding in an orderly rhythm. The landscape architect ‘explored’, ‘wandered’, ‘observed’ and ‘searched’ within this space, encapsulating the landscapes of Jiangnan within this realm and transforming them into a series of scenic tableaux: long eaves casting deep shadows, a bright moon and a rainbow, and scenes of mountains, water, forests and streams. Winding from the entrance to the riverbank, the design features colonnades, turns, layered vistas and narrative elements, preserving the essential beauty of traditional Chinese gardens through its structure of beginning, development, transition and conclusion.
