The new, sculptural limestone façade for Royal de Versailles Jewellers’ new Rolex Boutique in Toronto blends classical craftsmanship with contemporary design. The design team used parametric modeling and digital fabrication to translate the anatomical elegance of Rolex timepieces into an architectural gesture. The rippling stone panels soften the modernist structure above while referencing watch elements like bezels, lugs, and sapphire crystals. A CNC-etched pattern on the east façade, developed in collaboration with computational designer Arturo Tedeschi, is inspired by the microtextures on watch dial engravings that catch the sunlight and imbues the heavy limestone with a sense of fluidity, airiness, and dynamism.
