PROTECTION AND RESTORATION PROJECT FOR HISTORIC DISTRICT OF ‘CUNQIAN VILLAGE, WUXI’
“Tian Shang Cun Qian” is a key project in Wuxi’s “Grand Canal Cultural Belt 14th Five-Year Plan” and one of the city’s sixteen historical districts. It is an urban renewal and preservation planning project that integrates planning, architecture, landscape, and lighting. The area has now opened to the public and has been selected as the Wuxi branch venue for the 2025 Spring Festival Gala. The village of Cun Qian was established around 1440 and is recognized as the birthplace of modern scientific education in Wuxi and even China. The historical district features numerous architectural remnants, including a century-old clock tower, granaries, and a traditional school, earning it the reputation of an “open-air museum of rural architecture.” The design adopts the theme “Tian Shang Cun Qian, the Hometown of Scholarly Heritage,” aiming to restore, renovate, and innovate the area to serve contemporary needs.
