SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT T1 EXPANSION
The future of travel calls for airports that are smart, innovative, and resilient. At San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Harvey Milk Terminal 1 (T1) redefines expectations of what a terminal should be and what it means to travel well. One of SFO’s oldest terminals, the renovation expanded the existing terminal to a 24-concourse that is able to accommodate 17 million passengers per year. The new vision for this terminal is one of celebration and the joy of travel, highlighting everything uniquely Bay Area with focus on sustainability and passenger wellness. To make the travel experience less stressful and more engaging, Gensler worked with SFO to design a modern ticketing lobby and checkpoint to reduce wait times. After security screenings, high ceilings in the terminal diffuse noise and increase natural light, providing a sense of openness that helps passengers relax.
