SHENZHEN FUTIAN DISTRICT XINSHA PRIMARY SCHOOL

Xinsha Primary School is one of nine schools under the “8+1 Futian New Campus Action Plan” initiated by the Urban Planning Bureau to explore a new type of school campus in the high-density city center of Shenzhen. In order to rebuild the harmonious relationship between the campus and the neighborhood, we decided to avoid using fences and designed an arcade instead. There was an idea of eliminating the closed feeling of traditional class room boxes, and making the classrooms space extend to the corridors and balconies. By designing a balcony, the window sill is only 0.5 m high having an large opening. Even the first-grade student can see the outside whiling seating. We designed a series of “themed playgrounds” providing rich spatial experience, which are the venues for playing, communication, and exploration.
