Hilltop Gallery

Hilltop Gallery is located on Yanshan Mountains, overlooking theGreat Wall. The building not only functions as an art galley, but also serves as the reception and exhibition space for the Phoenix Valley project.
“Keep up with the mountain and follow the trend” is the fundamental design principle of the entire project. The form of the building is not the only aspect that is integrated with nature. The fluid design of interior space corresponds to different functional requirements as the spatial scale changes. The boardwalk on the roof connects the outdoor space to the top of the building. The experience of climbing over the roof echoes the unique spatial experience of the Great Wall. Besides the support from digital method, it’s important for us to adopt primitive and local materials. The design and construction of the Hilltop Gallery is another attempt for us to explore digital design method in the Chinese context.
