THE COURTYARD HOUSE

The Courtyard House by TEDO is a country residential house in Tonglu, Hangzhou, China. Our goal is to make the most use of the site while bringing nature indoors. We created a central courtyard that connects to every room, allowing people to interact with nature freely. Even with this new layout, we’ve carefully positioned the building so that the views of the distant mountains from are still reserved. As the members of the family move between connecting with nature and seeking shelter, they find a peaceful balance – creating that perfect mix of openness and protection we designed to feel like a safe, calming retreat.
