SIU KAI FONG

Siu Kai Fong is a community‑driven public art installation by O&O Studio and REhyphenation, created in North Point with support from the Urban Renewal Fund. Inspired by residents’ oral histories and donated furnishings, the project re‑purposed 47 chairs and tables into an outdoor “living room” along the pier. Each piece carries stories of the neighbourhood, with selected chairs accompanied by voice recordings accessible via QR codes. Painted ground graphics echo the colourful heritage tiles of Hong Kong’s tenement buildings, while transparent acrylic preserves damaged items for contemplation. The installation highlights the practice of sharing furniture in public space, reflecting the closeness of Hong Kong’s communities and their invisible connections. Beyond its exhibition period, Siu Kai Fong continues through charity sales and educational events, extending its impact and reinforcing the ethos of community engagement, memory preservation, and cross‑generational participation.
