URUMQI TIANSHAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TERMINAL 4 & GTC
Urumqi Tianshan International Airport serves as a vital hub of China linking Central Asia and West Asia. After nearly a decade of construction, Terminal 4 was officially opened for operation in 2025, with a long-term annual passenger throughput capacity of 50 million.
The terminal design inherits the natural geographical and mountain landscape context of Urumqi. Taking the “Tianshan Mountains” as its core design theme, it draws design elements from Xinjiang’s unique landforms including desert and snow-capped mountains, shaping a magnificent rolling silhouette.
The primary white tone resembles snow, echoing Bogda Peak in the background. The three undulating roof sections symbolize the Tianshan Mountains. Curved roof surfaces and skylights embody the imagery of the Silk Road, creating a dynamic undulating form reminiscent of fluttering silk ribbons.
