GET SPACE
GET SPACE is a mixed-use development comprising offices, apartments and retail above an existing MRT station in the core area of Guangzhou Science City. The site is defined by two parcels of longitudinal land of 600m long and an average width of 30m with a height control of 100m. These constraints pose significant challenges for the design to balance land value maximisation versus the sensitivity to the city fabric. The design begins by exploring the form of two ‘horizontal’ skyscrapers. Based on the programming, the interplay of volumes through stacking, sliding and displacement forms an interesting dialogue between mass and voids, allowing for physical, visual and environmental connections with the surroundings. The volumes seemingly cascade down from the two ends, forming a mirrored and interesting skyline. GET SPACE aims to revisit and re-define the relationship of a built environment with the city street, focusing on the interface between the two at both city and human scales.
