THE SIBERIAN
O&O Studio reimagines a heritage midrise building in Central as The Siberian, paying homage to the former glory of the Siberian Fur Store. The design uses a minimally invasive approach, updating the modernist structure into a contemporary space rich in character. Founded in 1935, Siberian is one of Hong Kong’s oldest retailers and establishing the city as a luxury apparel hub. The renovation of the 1967 building at 29 Des Voeux Road Central features a façade with rhythmic arches, including twin arches at the top floor. The intermediate floors display a mix of arched and rectilinear windows that draw the eye upward. Interiors pay tribute to the golden age of fur fashion through materials, textures, and colors, retaining original elements for a historical experience. Semi-circular designs appear throughout, while calligraphy by the founder’s daughter-in-law discreetly references the building’s legacy. The Siberian blends heritage and modernity, shaping the future of Hong Kong.
