PANYU CENTRAL PARK

Panyu Central Park ambitiously breaks the boundary of a private gated community and promotes sharing of open space among residents and visitors. Located in Panyu, Guangzhou, this neighborhood development is the hub for a dense urban community, raising its visibility and value and setting a high standard for open space in the area . Our design team worked with the developers to rethink the spatial pattern of the gated communities commonly seen in China. We identified innovative spatial approaches to open up the community’s central park, connecting it to the CBD’s central green and to the trail system in a preserved forest nearby. In this way, we promote shared open space among residents and visitors from outside of the community, and blurring the line between a private gated community and a lively urban park for all.
